slow elevators

So this has really really been bothering me. As many of you know, I’ve added Grey’s Anatomy to my list of must-see tv. I know I made Jenny and Shawna pretty proud by doing so. :) But there’s one part of the show that really bugs me, and yes I know this stupid…. The elevator scenes. Dude. Yes, they’re awesome and filled with the much enjoyable sexual tension between Meredith and Dr. McDreamy, but let’s really look at this shall we. Seattle Grace has 5 floors according to the buttons on the inside of that elevator…. this is a hospital… there is no way that you can have a elevator ride lasting over two minutes to ride down 5 floors! People would die.

In order to illustration my point, here’s a clip from season 2 where it takes 53 seconds to ride to floor 1 from floor 2. Then 40 seconds to ride from floor 2 to floor 4. Does this bother anyone else?

And before any of you say anything, yes, I know it’s a tv show. :) It just really erks me for some reason when I watch it. Heidi’s apartment elevator is faster than this one. We get up to floor 21 in well under a minute…. FLOOR 21! argh.

at last.

And it finally happens. I now have contacts with NBC and Universal Pictures and they look forward to working with me. :) I’ve been working on this for so long it’s not even funny. I’m loving life at the moment :)

emma on career day

So today I visited Dutchtown High School as a speaker for career day. Andy’s mother invited me to come and speak with her about graphic design, and the web design work I’ve done with FanBolt as well as my work with Warner Brothers. I got up at 6:40, and ended up down there about a hour early (killed some time napping in my car)… I suspected I would encounter traffic, however it was not an issue.

I spoke to 6 groups throughout the day, and then accompanied Andy’s mother to her art class to talk to her students about my work as well. Everyone was super nice, and it ended up being a pretty cool experience. It was rather amusing when I first got there and walked into the office… I was informed I was late and I told them that the thing said I wasn’t supposed to be there till 9 and it was 8:30. They then said oh you’re not a student? I smiled, biting my tongue, and told them I was there to speak. :)

I spoke about my educational background, my current site, the movie/tv promotions I work with, the movie press tour I went on last fall, how I got started in the industry, dealing with copyrights, my daily routines, the importance of networking and marketing yourself, budgeting, salaries, and then what a pain self-employment taxes are.

I think my favorite question asked was “Does your myspace look cool?” I found this pretty amusing. I replied with “I like to think so.” And then I had several guys inform me they were going to add me as a friend when they got home. After that group left, Andy’s mother joked that they were one step away from asking me out. They kept waving to me and saying hey to me for the rest of the day in the hall. heh :)

Overall, I think it went over really well. Several of them said I was the coolest speaker that they had heard. I then gave them pens and bumper stickers. Because that’s what you do when people think you’re cool. :) They wanted shirts too, so I promised to send some back to them through Andy’s mom. I was pretty stoked they were so excited about it.

dark hair.

I forgot to mention on here (thought most of you already know and have seen it)… I now have dark red/brown hair and am definitely pleased with the results. I think it suits me much better. :)

happy earth day

yesterday.

Alright, so now that I’m rested, for the most part, you get the write up about yesterday. I had a bunch of free passes for DixieLand, so Sara, Andy, Adam, Forster, and myself all took advantage of that. There was a bunch of little kids I knew at the park since it was the end of the season Georgia Figure Skating Association party for all the members. My dad put together the whole party for everyone, hence my free passes… So we spent the day playing laser tag, skid car racing, go-cart racing, riding the eight legs of doom, riding the pneumatic swing, and playing arcade games. It was awesome. :)

My bruised vertebrae is result of skid cart racing, since Adam felt the need to spin me out and stay on my butt the entire race while bumping every time we went around a curve. :) The last round we raced it was just the 5 of us and this one other dude, so that was a pretty violent race, we were all slamming into each other… some more than others *coughs* Adam *coughs* :)

Laser tag was also pretty awesome. Even though you never knew if your equipment was working right. The last round, it was the 5 of us and another dude against 9 kids, some of which were my previous students from my coaching days. We rocked that round despite how vicious the kids were.

It was a pretty awesome day. We rode the swing like 9 times… it always scares the crap out of me the first few rides, but then when I stuck my legs out and held my hands up the whole time, it felt awesome and not nearly as terrifying. Good times.

Here’s some of our Nikon moments:

saturday outing

I’ll write about today’s events later due to the huge bruise and bump forming on my lower vertebrae. Until then, here’s a tease.

The injury is not from the above activity.

Yeah I know you can’t wait for the details. :)

titanic

So last weekend, Andy and I went to the Titanic exhibit. There several separate ones that travel around, this one was different than the one I saw when I was in Columbus, Ohio 2 years back, so that was pretty awesome. There was a huge piece of the hull there… it was weird standing behind it on the same night when the ship sank 95 years ago, it was almost like we were inside looking out through the windows. I’ll upload the pics to flickr as well, but until then here’s the hull pics that Andy manage to get without security yelling at us.
