saturday night photos.

So I’ve been M.I.A due to our move…. which seemed like it took forever. :-)

We’re finally settled into the new place, and I’m almost caught back up on all the things I fell behind on. So regular updates will resume soon.

But to the point of the post! Saturday night, Andy, Nic, Justin, and myself hung out on the balcony taking photos and trying cool lighting techniques. We got some pretty cool shots which I’ve highlighted below.

I went down to Brunswick for the 4th to hang out with Jenny. We ended up laying on the beach on Jekyll watching fireworks Friday night with her parents, her brother and his gf. It was a great show.

We spent the rest of the weekend back and forth from St. Simons, the house, the bookstore, and the movie theater. (btw- Hancock isn’t that bad… at least not as bad as I thought it would be.) Here’s the photos from the weekend:

miami, coral castle, the keys…. the sunburn.

A brief overview of the trip. I’ll have pictures from the set of Burn Notice, the series I actually went on the trip for, later this week. But here’s a brief overview…

Thursday- Arrive in Miami, go to South Beach, Sleep 4 hours, go to dinner with the creator of the series… and eat the best steak of my life. :)

Friday- Breakfast with the press, interviews & set tours, lunch with the star of the series, more interviews and set tours, shopping in Coconut Grove, and dinner at the Grove (2nd best lasagna of my life).

Saturday- Sleep in, lunch at Miami beach, swimming, sleeping, dinner on Ocean Blvd in South Beach, lounge, and crazy elite nightclub thanks to the crazy rich British peeps we met.

Sunday- Coral Castle and the Keys

Clearly I wore the wrong swimsuit. :) Hopefully these tan lines can be fixed after I recover from this burn. :)

Coral Castle (if you don’t know what this is, Google it. It’s pretty cool stuff. I’ve wanted to see it for years. It was pretty interesting, but not worth a special trip unless you’re already in route to the Keys):

The view we had during dinner last night:

The trip was amazing…. staring at that view last night made it hard to think about coming back today. I would have stayed forever if I could have. Nic was an awesome travel buddy, even though his burn is going to probably turn into a crazy dark tan. In the meantime, I’m living on painkillers for the next few days until I have the full range of motion back in my arms. :)

Pictures from the show set coming soon! :)

So the hdr is from the trip to acquire Sara. I just saw the colors in the clouds and knew I had to stop and take the picture. I love the way it turned out.

Out of about 300 pictures from tonight’s Tift Merrit concert, there’s probably about 120 that turned out the way I wanted, I’ve gotta go through and pick out 15 to go on the site. Here’s one of them in b/w because let’s face it, folk singers… b/w…. it’s like they were made for each other. :)

So I did some work today with Alexandra. It was my first time trying this technique with a person in the picture, so that’s raised some interesting topics for me to research now…. how to achieve the best balance when using the external flash, how to shoot directly into the sun and still capture color… those sort of things :)

I’ve uploaded my favorites to flickr, you can check them out the set here.

photo awesomeness.

Added a new flicker gallery here.

Let me know what you all think! I’ve only done 13 out of 467. I definitely won’t do all of them, but I will probably still edit a couple more. I still haven’t mastered this, but I feel like I’ve come a long way since I started learning about this technique. I want to go do some shoots soon… I was a bit too spoiled over the last few days taking pictures. :)

a taste of what’s to come.

So here’s a taste from the jpeg collection of images I took at St. Simon’s. Most of all the images I took were in raw format which my mac’s os won’t support, so I can’t play with those until I get back to the desktop. It should be fun to edit those :)

This is just 1 of 698. :) And yes it’s done with 3 separate images each. The sky was really cloudy today so I didn’t have a very large dynamic range, but I’m happy with my results. I can’t wait to play with the others! :)
